Yorkshire Three Peaks

After stepping up our fitness for a few months, we tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks on Saturday 25th August. It was a long walk and the peaks were hard, but the distance in between helped to loosen the legs. The scenery was superb and we had luck with us on the weather and snack bar fronts.

Clocking in 25 miles and 5,200ft of ascent and descent in 9 hours and 24 minutes, we were very pleased with ourselves. The pace-setting fellrunner helped our timing and enjoyed himslef (although later heard claiming that only Ingleborough felt like a "proper" mountain).

It was a popular walk over the Bank Holiday weekend, and everyone we saw and spoke to seemed to be enjoying their time in the hills. The route comes highly recommended to the fit and outdoorsy types. The Harvey map (Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks) shows the whole area, and leaves you free to make your own route decisions.

If you decide to go for it, we hope you have cool but clear weather, and remember not to worry too much about the time. For us, the next big thing will be the collection of mountains in Wales which top 3000 ft - the Welsh 3000ers: http://blogwalkers-welsh3000ers.blogspot.com
